Most DIY households have a supply of wood glue in the closet. Sadly, this often does not cut the mustard when you have a serious wood repair issue. How many times have you tried to fix that stripped-out screw in a doorframe, and ended up with it ripping out again? We have a solution!

Epoxies are two-part glues, renowned for their unsurpassed strength and durability. Additionally, epoxies offer a number of different consistencies and styles to fit just about any project, and can be modified to suit a specific purpose.

PC Woody is an epoxy paste exactly formulated to replace missing and rotted wood. It has structural strength GREATER than most wood. For this reason alone, chuck the wood glue. PC- Woody is permanent wood repair for interior and exterior applications. This epoxy is made from real wood and has many characteristics of wood. Why fix something twice?

According to The Family Handyman, “Epoxy is the perfect material to make permanent repairs of rotting window sills, door jambs and exterior molding that are difficult to remove and expensive to replace. Epoxy is easy to handle too. You mix it like cookie dough, mold it like modeling clay and, when it hardens, you carve and sand it just like wood. It sticks like crazy and is formulated to flex and move with the wood, so it won’t crack and fall out like some wood fillers.”

The Wood Repair Process

  1. Find and stop the cause of the rot. If moisture is the culprit, try to figure out a method to reduce future contact. For example, you can try placing a layer of galvanized sheet metal between the wood area and concrete or ground to keep it from absorbing moisture.
  2. Figure out if there is a layer of paint involved. Sometimes paint meant to protect the wood chips or cracks, allowing water to soak in and rot the wood. Once it’s been repaired, this type of decay is easy to prevent by maintaining the paint job.
  3. Find a temperature controlled work space. Temperature is a key factor to how quickly epoxy hardens. PC Woody is formulated to give you an extended working time. Remember, heat accelerates the reaction, while cold slows it down. Use this to your advantage. Work in the shade and keep the epoxy materials cool (about 70 degrees F) when you’re mixing and applying the epoxy. Then if you want to speed up the hardening process, use a hair dryer or a spotlight to warm up the epoxy repair.
  4. Form and shape as needed. PC Woody mixes to the consistency of Play-Doh and will easily form into a shape that will hold with no sagging or slumping. That makes it perfect for vertical repairs like the front edge of a windowsill. Tip: Start by roughing out the basic contour with a Surform plane or coarse rasp.
  5. Add the finishing touches. Once you’ve reached your filing goal, you are free to paint or stain PC Woody filler to match the grain. Yes, it’s that easy.

So, the moral of the story is … don’t bother messing with wood glue. Start, and end, your project right with PC epoxy. You won’t have to do it again.
