The Wood Repair Process
- Find and stop the cause of the rot. If moisture is the culprit, try to figure out a method to reduce future contact. For example, you can try placing a layer of galvanized sheet metal between the wood area and concrete or ground to keep it from absorbing moisture.
- Figure out if there is a layer of paint involved. Sometimes paint meant to protect the wood chips or cracks, allowing water to soak in and rot the wood. Once it’s been repaired, this type of decay is easy to prevent by maintaining the paint job.
- Find a temperature controlled work space. Temperature is a key factor to how quickly epoxy hardens. PC Woody is formulated to give you an extended working time. Work in the shade and keep the epoxy materials cool (about 70 degrees F) when you’re mixing and applying the epoxy. Then if you want to speed up the hardening process, use a hair dryer or a spotlight to warm up the epoxy repair.
- Form and shape as needed. PC Woody mixes to the consistency of Play-Doh and will easily form into a shape that will hold with no sagging or slumping.
